Hello Foristi,

since we want to build a prefabricated bungalow in the next 2 years, we are now starting with the first considerations. The trigger for these considerations is the fact that after more than 20 years in our own house, we want to downsize. Our wishes are quite clearly defined, and so we have clicked through many house plans. Oh yes, we means 2 adults who want to enjoy early retirement in their new home and in a new area. The child has moved out, but a guest room as well as a study should definitely be included. Accessibility would be nice, guest bathroom and storage room should be directly accessible from the kitchen. The living room should be visible from the kitchen and not separated in a kind of bay window. We want to build in the area around Güstrow in MV.
We like the Lillehammer from Fjorborg and only minor things would need to be changed. Has anyone here had first-hand experience and can report?
Also interesting would be an assessment of what is well or poorly solved, with a short explanation.
And I am still undecided regarding the geographic orientation in terms of light incidence, heat input, as well as solar collectors on the roof.
I also found a nice design on Pinterest, but could not determine who built the house. I have attached the picture here, maybe someone here knows it?
It will certainly be an exciting time and I am already looking forward to an interesting exchange.

That looks like the corner bungalow from "JK Traumhaus" in Petersberg. However, the website is dead and the company is listed as deleted in the commercial register. An original design, in my opinion. I just wonder: You are moving out of your (now too big) house and even want to build a new one - but then a house that can accommodate a family of 4-5 people?

I also find them too huge when you say you want to downsize... Asking the other way around: Budget? Property? What is available?

Apart from the fact that I can't quite follow the language here: up to this sentence, I would almost have recommended the model :)

Don't you want a TV? Where should it hang?

We have a similar situation but we also find downsizing really difficult because you still want to keep guest rooms, individual areas, etc. ready or prepared for other contingencies.
If then understandably things are added that one feels are worth preserving or improving from the "old" life, suddenly you end up the same size or even larger than before; going backwards is always more difficult.
Maybe right now only the rooms or areas are too big and insufficiently focused, so they are perceived as too large.
Originally we also wanted a bungalow, but then switched for several individual reasons, especially because of the required floor space of a bungalow, the lack of a view, etc.
Therefore, one would probably need to know more about your private preferences to be able to give appropriate advice; here are a few examples:
We have a large dining area with a table but never eat there, so this area would not even have to be directly next to the kitchen. I mostly grill outside, so the necessary proximity of kitchen-grill and a roof above that. We have completely different daily routines, so sleeping, bathroom, etc. must be adjusted accordingly. My wife likes to sit directly in the sun, I prefer the shade, she likes it a bit warmer in the room—I don’t, one goes to bed earlier and often has visitors for long chats, the other likes to watch sports on TV or [Geierwally] etc., does TV play an important role at all or can it take place in a small, rather dark side room...
What I mean to say is that especially when the kids have moved out, you can design your living area independently and in detail exactly as you like NOW, even if others or the young might think it’s crazy. I’m looking forward to mine! :D
