Hello everyone,

we have already made quite some progress with our floor plan for a single-family house (see picture of the ground floor).
Now a friend of ours said that the passage in the hallway to the kitchen/living area on the ground floor with a rough opening of 1.07 m or 1.16 m is, in his opinion, clearly too narrow and that we should make the house at least 25 cm wider to have more room here. We actually do not want to do that with regard to the costs, since the house with about 9.0 x 12.5 m is already quite large anyway and fully covers our desired room program.

Do you see a substantial point here that the passage width in the hallway is too narrow and that we should therefore revise the plan again?

Thank you very much and best regards
ufr

The foyer is a dance hall and where it counts, it is too narrow. Yes, the passage is too narrow. Much can still be improved on the ground floor.

That somehow looks to me like Gussek Haus Siebenbrunn in a slimmed-down version with an additional room. I agree with your friend. Especially the staircase should be moved backwards, otherwise you slam into the wall with momentum when descending. The purpose of this kitchen door around the corner is completely unclear to me – I would straighten that out immediately. Also, the fact that the living room has no own door may seem cozy at first glance for the caveman, but in everyday life it’s pure nerve-wracking. This tiny storage room behind the WC is also rather a desperate attempt to get past it into the office. Quite inelegant, in my opinion, and as dark as night behind this closet-"tower." The quickest solution would probably be to switch from a landing staircase to a simple half-turned one. And please, please remove this winding pathway knot from the kitchen. Door to the living room – that would eliminate the worst.

The floor plan is pretty bananas. The narrow hallway really doesn't work. Otherwise, I can only agree with my predecessor.

My photographic memory seems to recall an older thread, maybe the link will help you a bit: - the staircase location was different, but the arrangement of kitchen / living-dining room, the narrow hallway, and a few small other details appear similarly there.
