I guess the wish is for more closet space. Although I don’t like long narrow corridors, I have sketched an option with a walk-in closet upstairs. However, this then requires more roof windows for the upper rooms. I haven’t found any knee wall height yet. Depending on the height, one can also consider narrow windows there. The stairs to the basement are slightly offset beneath the other stairs (no landing – program error). The layout in the basement will surely be a bit tricky – that’s the price for the walk-in closet upstairs. I haven’t given it much thought so far. I left out the door to the pantry from the garage out of protest. I still think that’s nonsense. I can’t fit in a coat rack anymore – only a large closet – but that is at least 2 m wide by 0.6 deep. Opposite, a wall-mounted board with hooks for jackets would still fit.

Sorry for the late reply, we have an outbreak of illness here and the kids have infected each other ...

So unfortunately we can't build on the old basement, it is probably not in good condition. Of course, it would have charm.
A dormer is not possible, the floor area ratio would be exceeded.

My husband and I have been discussing for a long time how to change the plan, but we can't come to an agreement. Something always bothers him. He doesn't like your suggestions either.
He is now already about to contact the next general contractor. I'm slowly starting to think we will never build ...

That is the best reason to find a proper architect. A general contractor will probably not be able to provide the same architectural services.

If you ask me, you want too much on too small an area. 3 children, 1 office. Separate kitchen, large bedroom, wardrobe, anteroom, and shower downstairs. The impression of spaciousness will probably never arise unless you add proper square meters or cut something out. Otherwise, you can also live well in many small rooms.

Maybe it would be helpful if your husband looked for floor plans he likes, regardless of whether they fit the building plot or not.

Something always bothers him. He also doesn't like your suggestions. Can he even think spatially? I find the sentence very strange. Our suggestions are not set in stone like "only this way and not otherwise." Have you ever tried moving rooms yourself? That is, cut out small squares and rectangles and place them together as a house level?

So, now there is news. After I talked some sense into my husband that it can't go on like this, I called the GU (=architect) and explained our problem to him. He has now replanned it to everyone's satisfaction yes! I am very excited, it will start soon

Thank you for your help and suggestions, great forum here.
Warm regards

PS: Unfortunately, I do not yet have the revised plan.
