Some things have already been written. My opinion:

1) Kitchen storage room completely unnecessary and makes the space noticeably less attractive. However, I would definitely not plan a G-shaped kitchen, as it creates countless dead corners in the kitchen, and visually it’s not a highlight either.

2) I would definitely try to avoid 45-degree corners. They simply look outdated, and it’s no coincidence that you hardly see them in current floor plans anymore.

3) Southeast view towards the garden is not optimal in my opinion either. Doc.Schnaggl’s view, on the other hand, feels too cramped for me, and the combination with regular (not floor-to-ceiling) units doesn’t look so great either. I find your current plan with floor-to-ceiling units everywhere much nicer.

By the way, I think many exits are great. I want floor-to-ceiling everywhere facing the garden anyway, and then it can just be a door… whether you actually use it as an exit or not doesn’t matter at first, who knows how you might rearrange later or want to use one more exit.

4) I would definitely keep the storage room upstairs. Storage space upstairs is incredibly valuable.

In all four points opinion :) Of course, enlarge the far too small windows on the upper floor to twice the width, swap the orientation of the rooms upstairs. I would also, this has not been mentioned yet, grant the relaxation room some quiet and install a kitchen door under the stairs.

Thank you for the numerous hints and comments. These will certainly be brought up in part during the next meeting with the architect. Regarding the kitchen and the storage room, we will go to our kitchen studio and have a plan made, as our current kitchen is also to be integrated. We will also reconsider the room layout on the upper floor and, if necessary, swap the rooms. The windows in the children's rooms definitely need to be enlarged. As already mentioned, we are also not yet finished with the planning of the windows.

Off Topic:

How do you and everyone else (in the past) always come up with the idea that a kitchen island, which is drawn in such a way that there is still workspace at the back, causes grease splatters to land on the floor behind?
I cook quite often and have never noticed such a problem behind the stove. Every time I plan to observe these splatters directly, every time I forget, but not today.

Pan front left! (Back left should not be suitable for quick frying on standard cooktops), cooking chicken breast in oil.
The oil splatters around about 20-30 cm into the surface with a large 18 cm pan. Cooking apron is now on. The countertop in the rear area is only affected by the splatters for about 5 cm, which are of course on the stove surface behind the pan.
But definitely _not_ on the floor behind the island.

Hello Yvonne,

thank you very much for the really valuable experience report. :) That shows that it cannot be a general problem.

I had the experience with grease splatters at friends who have exactly such an island with a cooktop - but of course it can also be that simply too much fat, the wrong frying temperature, or the wrong pan was used there.

Regards,

Dirk
