Looks like there won’t be an answer anymore
A thread creator doesn’t necessarily have an online chat obligation for the rest of their life
Regarding the single-story design, I grew up in an apartment and just find it nice when everything is on one level.
In your property size’s case, that’s exceptionally possible, but not everyone can build their house as a detached flat
The garage is currently just a placeholder.
... which keeps a spot warm in the wrong place
With an L-shaped floor plan, the garage would have to be directly inside the house.
Why is that?
I’ve already searched several floor plans online but none really fit.
You’re probably going about it the wrong way: without a creative own idea, or the ability to translate an abstract concept into a plan (which is no shame for laypeople, but then you need a more talented planner).
Look at my main criticism and “learn” from it: the route between the central distribution point (in the current plan in front of the children’s rooms, bathroom, and living room) and the “source” of the hallway aka front door runs abstractly diagonal through the floor plan – only “straightened” by two bends in the course to avoid running crooked. This connection needs to be shorter if the hallway area / hallway length is to decrease.
And where is that from?
Bernburg, roughly speaking between Magdeburg and Halle.
