I didn't know until now that you can build a 55° roof. It looks really awful:

Has anyone ever seen that live?

@ Ypg of course you can live without dormers. The OP originally wanted 2 full floors and has a huge amount of books that need shelf space. Retrofitting would become really expensive. It's not my decision either. The OP has to simply play everything through. Whether comfortable for two or a bit tighter for three and 500 books will go away. There is space.

Are you serious now? Whether anyone has ever seen that? Have you ever walked through an old town ?

I’ve seen that quite often, I would even say with even steeper roofs. Whether you like it is another matter, but I’ve also seen renovated houses with a similar roof that had a very modern style added... I wouldn’t buy it now but it doesn’t look that bad.

At 35 to 55° DN and knee wall 120, [Zwerchhäuser] are rather less needed, and dormers also make little sense there.

Above approximately 42 to 48° (i.e., in terms of perspective distortions, "felt" 45°), in my opinion, one should keep distance from floor-to-ceiling or otherwise strongly vertical windows (on the gable sides), otherwise I would find the vertical emphasis too much.

Whether a village image absolutely must be preserved as it looked in the early days of the railway, I dare to question. The emperor won't come back from that.

All our old residential areas are full of them. 1950s brick houses...

Attached again briefly with explanation. The eaves must be built towards the street. North should be to the left. The driveway through the left property will be removed; instead, a new one will be placed between the properties.

Yes, we have a street here where only such houses stand. We will not go to 55, we will stay at 45.

We will at least have that calculated. Let’s see.
