Can you even see the pictures? I think I only added them, but didn’t embed them - so I’ll do that now:

The bedroom on the ground floor could indeed very easily be assigned to the other apartment by simply moving the apartment door on the ground floor 2 meters to the left. Then the storage room and the bedroom would be accessible from the stairwell.

But neither our bedroom nor one of the children’s bedrooms should be on the ground floor – we want everyone to sleep on the same level. Bathroom through the stairwell? No-go. Same with the kitchen. I could imagine a study there, but that is already set up in the attic, where you otherwise cannot place a room.

I’m telling you – however you twist and turn it, something is always inappropriate.

Where is your living area now? All together on the ground floor?

Currently, Child2 is the only children's room and Child1 is the living room. The bedroom is as shown in the plan, although we probably would have swapped it later anyway so that the two front rooms are the children's rooms due to the same size, etc.

I had also considered putting the new bathroom where Child2 is now; where the new bathroom is supposed to go (according to the plan), the wall could be moved slightly upwards on the plan and create an approximately 18m² third children's room – or if that doesn't work out, make it an office/TV room or similar.

But as I said, if we need to integrate an additional room in the planned extension, I only see the option to extend the extension over the existing building boundary at the top of the plan by the conservatory – that is, to extend the extension about 2.5 to 3 meters upwards over the entire width.

I would build the extension more or less as planned; as long as the children are small, two share a room; that's much nicer for small children anyway; and a few years later the parents move downstairs ... then the 'lovely - no longer so - little ones' don't need you in the next room anymore - where is the problem?

I would want to enter the toilet from the wide side, then a second shower would fit in there, or you could install a shower/toilet downstairs.

had a good idea - namely to untangle the knot.
I think that is a plausible solution

Very good idea. I would do it the same way.

Mine are almost 5 and 6 and don't know it any other way than being in a room of 11sqm. It only annoys us in the evenings when they are supposed to sleep or in the morning when they wake each other up. But I believe that from next year both will miss each other in the evenings when they have separate rooms.
