Your parents are actually a very good example that it is not always sensible to own a home at all costs.

You are wonderfully going round in circles here the whole time. All of you should sit down together and discuss the option. If in the end only a lazy compromise comes out, better leave it.

Just my 2 Cents

Of the 200,000€, 90,000€ alone was the purchase price and 20,000€ was the payout to the sister. That about 75% of the 90,000€ purchase price went back into the renovation is another matter, but it was neither planned nor agreed upon beforehand. Things were done for that which were also not planned previously.

Moreover, in 2011 I was neither married nor thinking about children. I was already together with my wife, and we also wanted to move in together. It was clear that eventually wedding and child would follow. But that we would enjoy having children so much that eventually there should be three was not something we were aware of at that time, and the possibility of an extension was still given.

You don't have to justify yourself here. Children and home have their justification.

I like the idea from . Sit down together before the first bank appointment and talk about everything.

You don't have to convene the family council with a finished idea. This way you can clarify finances and ideas with everyone. And then go to the bank with a joint idea.

Of course not. TE didn’t do that either - as he already said. But the child is now in the well or rather in the house. That is quite a different question. Namely, can TE afford 3 children? No matter what the answer is, I cannot expect my parents to sacrifice their life's work for my desire to have children. I believe TE feels the same way.

Ok, here is a completely different approach. Open space as the center - no hallways - no wasted space. Furniture arrangement can certainly still be optimized. Kitchen as a single row at the bottom of the plan is also possible. Soundproofing is definitely an issue here, I just have to plan for it from the start during construction. Separation from the basement easily possible with a door after the stairs.
