I would choose only shelves on the back side of the kitchen island ... as a storage area from the table side. That would need to be planned more precisely.

May I ask how old the already existing child is?

I think that with my variant design from post 5 you get the nicer rooms. Also, the dining/cooking room becomes nicer because this corner of the much too tight closet space doesn’t extend into the room.

In the original bedroom plan, the room was barely 330 cm wide. And placing a bed there makes it really tight on both sides of the bed.

The currently planned children's room on the ground floor is also well-furnished for teenagers (often the most desired wish is a 140 cm wide bed ;) ), or rather, the teenagers can be moved to the basement ;).

The little one is now 1 year old.

Yes, the bedroom is very tight in our planning. We are considering whether to forgo the walk-in closet and place the wardrobes directly in the bedroom. But the space on the left and right of the bed remains so tight.

Moving the teenager to the basement would be an option, but really only in the teenage years. And actually, we didn’t want a children's room for multiple children until they are 10 or older. The separation of the office and guest room is also important to us, in case we want to use the guest room for an au pair, for example. But you can’t have everything; we need to think about which compromises we want to make.

Best regards
Kerstin

In the initial solution, I also think that it makes little to no difference whether cabinets are placed separately or in the same room. Fundamentally, there is just too little space for it.

Another option would be during the toddler years, children both upstairs, parents in one of the rooms downstairs. Although children up to about the age of 6 also like to play with their parents anyway, and the 16 sqm is not a bad room for 2 little people to sleep in.

What would a study be used for? Private paperwork or rather home office? For the rather private paperwork, I could also imagine a cleverly arranged corner in the dining/kitchen area or even the living room.

We really need a proper home office, so I would rather not combine it with the guest room. But if push comes to shove, it can work.

What do you think about this, although it is not as nicely drawn as the version by Kbt.

We would do the wardrobe and kitchen as proposed by Kbt. We just haven’t drawn it so nicely yet.

The room in the southeast will become the children’s room for both kids, the bedroom will be in the southwest (unfortunately losing the east window, but theoretically the two can be swapped). Then there will be a small guest/work room that can be converted into a second children’s room if it doesn’t work out for both together or for later. And the dressing room will be next to it.

In the dining room, there is at least 1.40m of space between the table and the wall in both directions, which seems large enough to me.

Also another question: would it bother you if there were 3 steps going up from the dining area to the living area (extension)? The background is that we want to raise the extension as much as possible at the bottom so that the rooms are really usable. With 3 steps, we achieve a room height of 2.50 and floor-to-ceiling windows in the basement.
