But it is part of being a nursing professional. You "only" work 40 hours a week and have 2 days off per week. Just not Saturday and Sunday. For some, it is hardship; for others, a favorable extra income. Even though being a nursing professional is a very responsible and important job, the salary depends on the fact that it is not an academic degree in Germany. I believe, if I am not mistaken, Germany is the only exception in the EU.

But apparently, you don’t see beyond the hospital. A huge part of nursing is elderly care, and here in this region, €16-18 gross per hour is common. Both in outpatient care and, for example, in home ventilation care, where for that money you are 100% solely responsible for the life of the ventilated patient during 12-hour shifts. So that is not a bad pay?

It’s good that you know some. I have been working in a hospital for over 10 years and know about 500  It might have been true before, when there was an oversupply of nursing staff. Nowadays, with the PpUGV and the shortage of personnel in the nursing market, some things have changed. The reason for the salary is stated above. Bricklayers, tilers, carpenters, and cleaning staff do not fare any better physically.

Elder care workers can also work as qualified nurses in hospitals and thus receive the salaries of qualified nurses. I know someone and experts who know someone who knows someone whose acquaintance knows someone... I love it. But there are experts everywhere, you don’t even have to know anything for that...

Where do you get that I know someone who knows someone etc? It may vary regionally, but here it is actually as described. And I know that by chance, since after moving here my husband repeatedly received corresponding job offers. The salary was always in that range. So this is not "hearsay." A friend of ours is also a nursing home manager in a care facility... So there is not only you with insights into the professional field here

I know two certified geriatric nurses, one intensive care nurse, and one pediatric nurse. All are seriously considering quitting, or the pediatric nurse will soon start working in a daycare with integration groups for less pay. All are repeatedly on sick leave for weeks, all had Corona, and none of them would recommend the profession to their own children.
