But then the parents shouldn't give any gifts to the children at all. Or at what amount do you set the limit? Besides, loans were also mentioned. The topic of care is far too complex to discuss here on the side now.

You always project from yourself onto others. My parents-in-law receive enough pension so that with long-term care insurance, it would be sufficient for both to go into a nursing home. For my parents, it probably wouldn’t be enough for both, but the millions that a house sale would bring will hopefully be enough so as not to be a burden on the taxpayer.

It hopefully doesn’t matter how much they’ve helped us out of liquid reserves for the house construction.

The standard case here (wealthy area of Germany) is also that the house is paid off and additionally six-figure sums are available, which often just sit around in a savings book and checking account.

There are gift tax exemptions, why shouldn't parents use them?

Of course they are allowed. But then if the parents become in need of care, the children should either sell the house, which was co-financed by the parents, or take out another loan so that we all don't have to contribute for their luxury item.

We have already said this 1000 times. It's a matter of honor and upbringing. And we could write another 1000 pages about it and still not agree.

The standard case in a wealthy area is not the standard case. I have already written that several times. Elon Musk probably also wouldn’t have a problem supporting his child xyz4538ouf or whatever the name may be. But that is not the standard case...

And if the parents squander their money on vacations and luxury and then are taken care of by the state as care cases, is that better? Do you now want to forbid everyone over 60 from spending their money?
