Don't worry about whether my wife runs away because of this or not. You can have your wife run to the basement several times to throw in the laundry, then back down to unload the laundry and hang it up, then back up to the garden in summer... I prefer to have the things on the floor where the laundry is done and keep my wife with me longer for that. Can we maybe focus on the essentials again!?

Then answer the question, what you don't like about your draft.
If you want to have the washing machine there, I would probably do it exactly like that.

Although you probably have another misconception. Your wife is not staying on that floor, but probably one floor below in the living room.

I don't see the conceptual error. Laundry accumulates when changing clothes. Where you spend most of the time doesn't really matter. But I also don't have the floor plan in mind.

Well, when you do laundry, you don't stand next to the machine all the time. You start a load and then go back to where you spend your time, living room, kitchen, garden... It's the same for unloading the machine. I find it most practical to have it on the floor where you spend most of your time. Then you carry the laundry basket there once and have short distances. Or the laundry basket is right there.

Your considerations make sense if you are talking about a 2,000m² villa, where you have to walk from the west wing to the east wing when the laundry is done.

But in a single-family house with 150, maybe 200m²? A washing machine runs for about 2 hours. Does your wife go to bed in the meantime? Or does she rather go down to the living room or the kitchen?

That's nonsense. Do you want to have the tumble dryer in the bathroom during winter? In summer, you put the laundry on the terrace, so you have to go down with the basket anyway. And then a roaring washing machine upstairs all day?

There is a reason why the washing machine is traditionally put in the utility room [HAR] and everyone, really every standard floor plan provides for it that way.

A proper utility room on the upper floor would be something. You could also sort, collect, maybe fold or hang up laundry, iron. We have four or five laundry baskets in use. If you want to integrate something like that into the bathroom, you should plan a washing cabinet wall with storage accordingly. Then one less door would probably make more sense. But I also don't understand the fear of more movement that dominates so many plans.
