Advantages and Disadvantages: Raffstore or Roller Shutters?

Everything has advantages and disadvantages, it is best not to need any of it at all. All necessary shading solutions are just expensive makeshift solutions. The best approach is to solve it through construction methods or natural shading.

Venetian blinds are difficult to clean, very slow, and therefore almost always down, and very expensive. And honestly, they strongly resemble industrial buildings. Nothing is worse than large glass facades with those things always down.

Therefore, I am more in favor of roller blinds.

But roller blinds also have disadvantages with large windows, which have already been described here.

So not that roller shutters are like Fort Knox but I think they are somewhat more of an obstacle than venetian blinds.

I watched this at the police advisory office in a video: The burglar yanks the entire roller shutter out of the guide rails with a jerk and throws it away, they don’t even start to push anything up or similar.

If venetian blinds have to stay up in strong wind, that’s already a minus point for us

The question is, how strong should the wind be? Our largest venetian blind is according to the drawing 4.55m x 2.33m and the last time there was quite a lot of wind noise, it didn’t bother it at all (in guide rails).

We have 2.6m wide venetian blinds, even in storms so far nothing wobbles surprisingly, just minimal rattling.

The manufacturer requires a wind sensor only from a certain width.

=> interesting, which manufacturer is that? It can’t be Warema.

Roller shutters are only somewhat a burglary protection in that they are an additional noise source when entering. Otherwise, there are sobering videos about roller shutters on the Internet.

=> I absolutely agree, otherwise just buy an iron curtain like at a jeweler's shop window

What spontaneously occurs to me as advantages of venetian blinds (purely personal perception):
a) you can wonderfully leave the windows open in the rain without rain coming in and breathe fresh air (depends on the correct slat angle)
b) you can keep the windows wide open all day without neighbor’s cats coming in or anyone else quietly gaining access
c) you can create great sunlight effects inside the room ))

One option would be textile shading. Slightly more wind-resistant than Venetian blinds and, depending on the fabric, also completely dark. Venetian blinds allow the best control of light and can also be automated. Nevertheless, we will opt for textile for other reasons.

Our neighbor has [Raffstores]. Last week they were constantly up, which surprised us. We had wind, they were on vacation. Everything was open because of this automation. The nice thing is that they are opaque but let light through. Besides, they look better. But is it worth the extra cost?

That is too general, we have high-speed motors in our venetian blinds and they are faster than any roller shutter going up or down.

do they have to win a race?? So what people worry about here, madness. And whether they go up in the wind or not... then they go down again when they are released. Neither shutters nor blinds stop a burglar! I always like it when the neighbors all gather with shutters, you immediately know that they are on vacation^^
