May I ask how? I mean, how can that be controlled? Alarm system in case of burglars?
It is the triangle of the need for security, material effort, and wallet. Where you position yourself there is of course your own business. We do not have an increased need for security and normal single glazing is sufficient for us. There is burglar-resistant glass and also bulletproof glass. The range of solutions is large.
May I ask how big it is (width)?
The roof overhang extends over the entire width of the house. The roof is pulled down to a height just above the windows and the overhang is 60 cm. The large windows of the house are oriented to SSW. This means that in July the midday sun does not enter the room. With this, we have fixed shading that works well depending on the sun’s position.
Forgetting once in the season to lower the blinds means several days of a heated-up room. Do you want to only look at the blinds when the sun is shining outside?
That is a valid point. It makes sense to be able to ventilate the room very well at night. Of course, the insulation still works against that, because once the walls are heated from the inside, they do not give off the heat again. Ultimately, we don’t really care, because in summer we have the windows open anyway and the daytime temperature simply spreads inside. If it is 30 degrees outside, eventually it will be that in the house too. Behind the house is a deciduous forest, which can sometimes be 10 degrees cooler than the area in front of the house. In the evening, we also open the windows in the back and cooler air flows down the slope from the forest through the house and cools it somewhat. That is of course a special location that we can use. A few days a year it’s just a bit too hot – so what. In the worst case, we could set up a mobile air conditioner, which we hardly ever do.
