I am someone who initially had roller shutters offered throughout the house by the window manufacturer. On the ground floor, we have 2 patio doors/windows measuring 2.33m x 3m on the south side and 2 patio doors on the west side measuring 2.33m x 1.76m. But when I saw last summer that all the neighbors had their roller shutters permanently down, the decision was easy. At least for these 4 openings, we had to have venetian blinds. However, since the budget is naturally limited and we like to sleep in complete darkness, roller shutters remained on the upper floor. Unfortunately, the color selection is problematic if you don’t take an aluminum roller shutter cover, because then the only venetian blind color option if you want everything to be homogeneous is white-aluminum.
My window manufacturer said that aluminum covers are three times more expensive than conventional roller shutters, but then you can also get RAL7016, DB703 or gray-aluminum.
For summer, I can actually only recommend venetian blinds on the ground floor for south or west orientation, unless you want to live like a madman (said ironically) or turn the light on when the roller shutters are down.
I wouldn’t worry about burglary protection with suitable RC2 or RC2N windows.
