Hey Yvonne,
thanks for asking. I am still waiting for the updated plans from the architect. But since the structural engineer is on vacation, he is not in a hurry...
But the changes are moving in the direction mentioned here
Basically:
- The stairs will be moved about 20cm towards the entrance and towards the north, which makes the office/hallway upstairs more relaxed.
- The bedroom entrance door will be moved into the hallway as shown in the example.
- The children's room niches will be at least 2.2m so that a bed can be placed there (meaning the furniture layout will have the wardrobe on the wall towards the office and the bed on the wall towards the bedroom).
- The children's room doors will each open towards the short side of the house.
- We will install a concrete staircase and enlarge the utility room about 60cm under the stairs, and in the dining area there will be a built-in cabinet for the remaining 40cm. I imagine a mix between a bookshelf and a wall cabinet for the vacuum cleaner.
- The utility room will be slightly enlarged towards the guest room.
Overall, we will not have more circulation space on the upper floor than in the proposal by matte1987.
Where our architect refuses is to build over the staircase. He says that something like that always catches the eye later because you immediately see that the first step does not start with the opening in the ceiling and that is annoying.
Your suggestion with the gallery room was also considered by our architect, but I don’t like the idea that paperwork would then be lying around openly. Like the payroll that hasn’t been filed yet, etc. Better to have a door and a clean finish.
Best regards
Andreas
