The height is more flexibly variable, but with the width I wouldn't do half steps, like 163.5 or 176.

No, why? - I'm totally at a loss where I might have confused you: double-leaf only works with or without a central mullion. But there are people who don't think about that and then they plan by default with a central mullion and get told that the emergency exit window has to be an exception (to achieve a clear width of 90 cm).

No rule without exception. The 90 cm comes from the fact that about 40 cm is occupied by the ladder and about 40 cm is needed to climb out. However, there is the possibility to get a relief with windows with a central mullion, because one side of the mullion is for the ladder and the other side for climbing out. Even for 80 cm without a central mullion, you can get an exception permit if the window height fits. There was a report about this recently in one of the latest Feuertrutz issues.

Oh, now I understand that. I didn't know that a second escape route is mandatory for a single-family house. We tend to prefer Stulp (simply from the book). Then we don't have the problem you described.

The ground floor will probably be finished today. So the windows are already built in.

You have a comfortable 90cm opening, and you can fully place furniture on the sides without guilt. On the ground floor, cleaning from the outside shouldn't be a problem; on the upper floor... well, 40 cm is still manageable.

This stretches the window and the overall view, is cost-effective since there are two fixed panes (cheaper than French door 2*85).

Even nicer is the 185cm width with a 105cm middle sash.

In which Bäckerblume is this explanation stated?

There is apparently a widespread misunderstanding of the escape route, interpreting it as an emergency exit route. Then people think: "90 cm, I’m not even that thick, less would be enough for me to climb out." But it is not (only) an escape route for the resident who can still climb out by themselves – rather, it is a rescue route through which the firefighter can rescue (i.e. recover alive) the resident who is already beginning to suffer from smoke poisoning and is no longer able to flee under their own power. The firefighter must be able to pass through the opening carrying heavy and bulky equipment, and preferably not with "millimeter precision." An exemption permit unfortunately cannot make the firefighter less bulky when fully geared and with breathing apparatus on their back.

That means that not only the "naked" resident must be able to get out through the rescue route, but also the "loaded" firefighter must be able to get in!
