Hello,

KS is nowadays usually used because of the better sound insulation. If you build with ETICS, I would always prefer KS; otherwise, I agree with Dirk: if I can avoid ETICS, I build monolithically

Not really. Although she lies on a warm bed, cold air still flows over the joints. She probably kicks freely at night as well; with a warm base—assuming—more than others. Apart from that, it brings the disadvantages mentioned by Dirk plus others.

Rhenish greetings

Hello everyone,

I have now looked at the advantages and disadvantages as best as I could. I found this quote extremely helpful.

From my potential builder, I received the following information:

What is not entirely clear to me yet is whether heat recovery is sensible? Are there central systems without heat recovery? The decentralized system costs around €5,000 for the rooms mentioned above. I have not yet received a price for the central system.

Good morning,

the developer is called "Pfeil Bauunternehmung aus Althütte". It is a general contractor.
Thank you very much for the information.

Ok, the prices are not exactly cheap. But the more I read, the more I realize that a controlled residential ventilation system cannot hurt in a new building or rather supports proper ventilation. Especially when building with ETICS.

The decision between decentralized and centralized is not that easy. First, I should be clear about whether heat recovery is worthwhile.

The question of whether heat recovery is worthwhile or not has never arisen for me. Firstly, because I wanted a central system anyway and, as far as I know, these are not available without it. Secondly, because at -10 degrees outside temperature, I don’t want to have this cold air constantly blown into the house. A window rebate ventilation could also do this at much more favorable conditions.

Decide whether you even want a controlled residential ventilation system or if it is worth the money to you, and then whether it should be central or decentralized. The rest will follow by itself. For me, the decentralized system was ruled out simply because of the appearance.

But this is really about the wall structure, isn’t it?

Good morning,

I think it will be very difficult to achieve a comfortable indoor climate without controlled residential ventilation since both of us are hardly ever at home. My wife works all day just like I do, and I am also very often away on business trips. That means "controlled ventilation by hand" is practically out of the question.

I have now also received the prices for the ventilation system:

[*]Decentralized ventilation system without heat recovery €5,000
[*]Central ventilation system with heat recovery €9,500
[*]Decentralized ventilation system with heat recovery €6,500

I think the prices are realistic based on what I have heard here. Currently, I would choose the central ventilation system with heat recovery.

For the exterior wall, in addition to the 3 known options

1. Poroton 17.5 cm + WDVS (standard wall) no extra charge. U-value: 0.19 W/m2K
2. Aerated concrete 36.5 cm monolithic: extra charge: €8,900 with U-value 0.23 W/m2K
3. Poroton 36.5 cm T8 monolithic: extra charge: €12,200 with U-value 0.19 W/m2K

I have now received 2 more options, which practically improve option 1:

4. Poroton 24 cm + WDVS: extra charge: €3,900 with U-value 0.17 W/m2K
5. Aerated concrete 24 cm + WDVS: extra charge: €5,300 with U-value 0.16 W/m2K

The more options I get, the more uncertain I become. I think a monolithic construction would probably be best. On the other hand, by now I wouldn’t necessarily be against a WDVS if we install the central ventilation system with heat recovery. Would you prefer option 4 or 5 with the extra charges? Do you see a real added value here?

Thank you very much

Hello Thomas,

In my opinion, you have chosen the right option with the central ventilation system with heat recovery.

As I wrote in an older response of mine, I prefer a monolithic wall structure over any ETICS - purely for reasons of stability.

My parents built their house in 1973 and insulated it additionally years later with Styrofoam.

Problems that have occurred so far:

- New Year's Eve rocket penetrates the plaster and gets stuck about 5 cm deep in the Styrofoam

- Various holes in the plaster and in the Styrofoam caused by "fallen over" children's bicycles at the house wall facing the yard.

- Holes in the plaster and in the Styrofoam caused by impacts of various flying objects during strong storms (Lothar, Wiebke, etc.).

The damages could always be repaired quite easily, but if you don’t repaint the entire house, the repaired spots are of course very visible...

Regards,

Dirk
