Of course, you can adjust them as needed. The cheap ones from the hardware store are just slotted, that can be changed. Ours are screwed, it takes some effort, but it could also be changed in 5 cm increments.
But they are more load-bearing. I just checked, I have about 200 beverage cans of 0.5 l each and 1 bag of dog food standing on one.

Yes, metal shelves are definitely more load-bearing. However, with the screw shelves, it’s more annoying to move a shelf board sometimes. With Ivar, you just move the 4 little nipples and you’re done.
Also, it’s very important to know exactly what is going to be stored. Some kind of storage planning, so you better understand what you actually need, also in terms of variety.
Ivar just has the durability bonus for extension and supplementation. As I said, my oldest parts date from 1981 ;) and are still combinable.

Painting/varnishing helps against moisture. You have to do it with steel shelves too ;)

Thank you for your messages

I think we prefer a metal shelf because it is more stable.

We do not need flexibility; we will set up the shelves once and will probably move them very rarely or not at all.

The Bror series from Ikea would also be interesting.

Omar does not look so good.

Or we take proper heavy-duty shelves

We store most things in boxes like the Samla boxes from Ikea

Over the years, I have bought shelving units with adjustable shelves from Schäfer on Kleinanzeigen (partly at a great price) and now have about 14 linear meters of shelves with a height of 2 meters. The shelves can also be adjusted in height. It’s a bit time-consuming but it works. Additionally, we have bought about 25 boxes called "Really Usefull Box" to protect the items from dust and to better utilize the depth of the shelves. Since the boxes are transparent, you can always see what’s inside and find what you’re looking for faster. We will keep this system in the new house’s basement as well, since the shelves are super low-maintenance and absolutely robust. The advantage of this pragmatic system is: if the basement ever floods, the boxes float and the galvanized shelves handle water better than comparable wooden systems. Since this has happened quite often in our region, this was definitely an important criterion ;-)

... you ask and are yourself rather unhelpful, because you don’t reveal anything at all about what exactly you want to store. That is a poor basis for tips.
