Just wanted to say that we also had the Ikea junk in the pantry at first because it had to go quickly. After half a year, all the shelves had bent! There weren't even the heavy food cans in there, just pasta, flour, etc. But that crap is only good for socks and bras. Now there's the Tegometall shelf – available in all sorts of depths. I think it will be there until we die.

So I have had IKEA shelves for years, Ivar, Billy and Pax. Nowhere have any shelves sagged and they have sometimes been heavily loaded. I have to say this in defense of the Swedish furniture maker. My Billys have just gone through their third move and are still standing - now in the basement, but they still do their job in terms of load-bearing.
By the way, I couldn't find Ivar the last time. I would have liked to supplement our old Ivars accordingly. The new system is called Hejne and unfortunately is not compatible with Ivar at all. I still see IVAR online, but in Augsburg they no longer had it. Just for those who want to complement their Ivar...

In my opinion, all those heavy-duty shelves, shelves for store fittings, etc. have a big disadvantage compared to the rail system: they have fixed dimensions. If it fits, that's great - but otherwise you waste space.
Boards of any kind for such a system can be ordered online or simply bought at the local hardware store around the corner (many also offer a cutting service for special sizes).

So Ivar, I just bought again, in December, for a friend. And, there are new things for IVAR. Hejne is a different system.

so our Billy shelves have had a slight sag in the middle after years with many books. I wouldn’t want to store stacks of cans etc. on them. Whatever. Our utility room is currently a bit chaotic too – and even when it’s properly tidied up, it still looks messy because it’s a storage room and not a living space. The goal: enough order so that you can find everything without much searching.

I just hope you don't shed a tear because of me, it wouldn't be worth it! And if I call a storage room what it is, I certainly am not judging anyone's life.
