I got 2 offers: The first 4 meters each were included, after that you have to pay per additional meter. Groundwater is found at about 3 meters with us: Costs were about €800 for a simple hand pump. An electric pump, nicer well, etc. could be added. With a water + wastewater price of about €3 per m3 you can calculate when it is worthwhile. We have a maximum consumption of 25 - 30 m3 for outdoor water. I would come to about 9 years until it pays off. But if you water your garden extensively, your water price is correspondingly high, etc., it can pay off earlier. For the well itself no fee is charged here - but the LRA can refuse you the permit. Alternatively, we have garden water meters. There you only pay the water price - but not the wastewater price (so only €1 instead of €3 per m3). However, since the meter costs €40 fee per year, this is also not worthwhile for us,...

Inquire at your municipality. They should be able to help you. A well in the garden is also subject to mandatory registration, as I just read on the [RP Darmstadt] website.

We have 1 cubic meter water tank (practically free) standing in a corner by the garage and the (rain)water (of the garage extension! 9sqm) is enough for our garden (around 400sqm) excluding lawn sprinkling. For that, you just have to use a watering can (or pump, I don’t know, but dosing is perhaps more careful with the can).

A well always pays off, as long as the garden is not tiny or you like rock gardens. Costs for us for a 9m well + a submersible pump in the well + pressure switch and some accessories (we also flush our toilets with well water) about €1,200. Just filling the children's pool multiple times with water (unfortunately it tipped over once) already costs 14 cbm + regularly watering the lawn + beds in front of the house and in the garden.

I recommend inquiring with the municipality. You might need a building permit for this.

Until the start of the construction phase, we had a well that was drilled nearly 3 meters deep and built with stones. A relic from the gardening era of my in-laws.
On hot days and especially during prolonged heat periods, the groundwater recedes. But with only a few centimeters of water in the well, you can't irrigate anything.

Therefore, it depends on whether you are allowed to drill a well and how high the costs are. It also depends on the planting of the property.

We have recently become a water protection area. Wells are not allowed. However, there are barrels that collect rainwater from the carport and garage. The rest must then be taken from the tap. Our property: 1100 sqm, of which 450 sqm are paved. The rest is low-maintenance.

ok... so we are not in a water protection area. I will inquire about the water and sewage charges. I have obtained a first offer for 5,000€ !!!!!
