Do you really estimate the risk of getting caught to be high? I know numerous examples where the groundwater obtained by means of wells is very "cheap" and no one has been interested in it so far.

I definitely don't want to encourage anyone, it just surprises me. Back then I was too scared.

No, it will not be noticeable. Unless the plumber installs the additional pipes and the switch right next to the water meter – but that would be foolish if one wanted to cheat. Although the city should be glad if as much water as possible flows through the channels.

Since I have neither experience with the topic nor any data about it, I cannot make a final assessment. We built our house on a well and accordingly have outdoor taps. A washing machine or toilet would have been easy, but we didn't do it either.

The problem is less that someone can somehow detect it (excessively low consumption?), but rather that eventually someone and I no longer get along and then I get reported.

Hehe - that would trigger a chain reaction; no - that danger really does not exist

The civil engineer and the general contractor told us that it wouldn't be worthwhile for pure garden irrigation - admittedly, not a scientific study, but oh well. For everything else, the water is too high in iron - neighbors apparently once connected a washing machine to it, and it broke down within a very short time.

I don't know what a drilling costs these days - in the past, the fire brigade guys used to do that on the side. However, when I see how often my neighbors water their gardens on summer days (we all have between 400 and 1000 sqm of garden behind the house), I have serious doubts about the statements of your civil engineer/general contractor.
