Well construction garden fountains - is it worth it?

Not everyone has a 14-ton pool. We probably need much less water for the garden per year than you do just filling the pool once. So with your well costs, we could easily cover 20 years of water expenses. So whether it’s worth it is very individual.

The pool is only 3.x m in diameter - but it had to be filled multiple times. You have a small garden, right? P.S. Connecting to the toilet can also be worthwhile. For five people (the kids are constantly rushing to the toilet, it’s great for little ones to be able to flush on their own), we need about +/- 30 cubic meters JUST for toilet flushing per year!

The garden size is mentioned above. But that has nothing to do with the pool size, even a 3m one would easily fit on our terrace. But I prefer small ones for splashing, they warm up faster, can be replaced faster because of dirt, and I don’t feel like dealing with pumps and filters. For a lot of water I go to the swimming pool/outdoor pool. In the first year I used about 50 cbm total, but the children are still small. Therefore, I am amazed by your consumption numbers, e.g. 30,000 liters for toilets.

400sqm garden - I had overlooked that. With that size, I would always go for the garden pump. Just for the lawn in summer alone - in every calculation, it should be 10-20 liters per sqm.

The toilet is quickly explained/calculated. Three children, each 4 times daily, one adult 4 times daily, and one adult 6 times daily (working from home) = 22 toilet visits daily x 5 liters = 110 liters daily x 330 days at home = 30 cbm.
This is only a very rough calculation, but it fits quite well. I would have thought it was less too, but the water meter doesn't lie ☺

Well, a 5m pool can hold about 25,000 liters here, we also have a well because it was there before, but even if you fill it 2 or 3 times, that's 600 to, let's say, 100 euros from the tap... meaning with 5,000 euros it would take 50 years to pay off.... but that's a thing. I don't believe that such a well can really be economically viable.

Hello,

wouldn't a "normal" cistern possibly be an alternative?

We had a cistern with a capacity of 5,000 liters buried under our garage driveway, the water of which we use exclusively for watering our garden (plot size just under 400 sqm).

Rainwater from 75% of the roof area of the house and both garages flows into this cistern.

In our first summer, despite freshly sown lawn and long watering times due to the hot summer, we managed well with it.

We filled our "pool" on the terrace (capacity approx. 2,000 liters) a total of 4 times from the outdoor water tap over the summer.

Regards,

Dirk
