We are gathering ideas for floor plans - Still at the beginning

Hello everyone,

we are currently gathering ideas, drawing floor plans back and forth, and so on... so we are really at the very beginning.

I am very interested to know what unusual things you have built into your houses. Any features, gadgets, functions, special furniture, devices, etc. where you thought: "I have to have that, no matter what!".

I’m asking because I happened to come up with an idea over the weekend where I said exactly that (I have to have it). I had never seen anything like it before but when searching on the internet I immediately realized that such things already exist - I would have honestly been surprised if I hadn’t found anything . Over the weekend we visited an indoor playground and there are these giant trampolines. Our floor plan has a pretty large open space at the entrance and I thought that a trampoline could go there. But I quickly forgot about it because when jumping, the ceiling would be too close. Ok, then I thought of those safety nets you always see on construction sites. They are stretched out there and used as giant hammocks. I think that’s very cool, and if you search for "hanging net in the house," you will see some pictures.

I think there are already so many cool things out there but you don’t think of them.
I’m curious what you have built in.

Steel strips, embedded in the plaster in the lintels of the windows, wallpapered over. Window decorations now hang freely placeable on magnetic hooks

I have a drainpipe from the upstairs bathroom that comes out down by the washing machine in the utility room, practically to throw in the used towels and laundry

On the upper floor (Kniestock 1.20) leave the ceiling open and insert a ceiling halfway (height 2.10) with a railing at the top and a nice staircase going up. On this small gallery, you can place a guest bed or set up a reading area, with an additional roof window above.

In the largest bedroom, build a wall for a walk-in closet. Install a standard room door or a sliding door

Our must-haves were: back door with a real handle so you can't lock yourself out. Utility room large enough to function as a laundry room and pantry and has a utility sink for heavy-duty use, etc. Despite being a bungalow, stairs—not a pull-down staircase but real ones—leading upstairs to the attic, which is fully walkable and serves as a cellar replacement.
