Cables are always better. But the standby power of TV, rPI, etc. is a joke. The costs of making them switchable would probably equal decades of standby power consumption. Devices that need data, but not constantly at high bandwidths, can easily use WLAN. For streaming/downloads (consoles etc.) cables, the rest don’t need any.
