Hello

we finally had the appointment with our electrician

in the meantime we have also decided on an ekey

front door: 3-point automatic lock (mechanical locking) with A-opener
ekey: we want the new ekey xLine on the house facade
video doorbell: the electrician recommended the Ring doorbell from Amazon

he says the Ring works reliably and without problems and is also very inexpensive
should we have a CAT cable laid for the video doorbell (the electrician wants 250€ per CAT cable) or is a standard 2-wire doorbell cable enough where a WLAN cloud doorbell can be installed?

what should we do with the door chime? should another cable be installed there or is the 2-wire doorbell cable enough?

I would not get something like that.

I have always had a bad feeling about systems that call home, for example to transmit videos.

In a recent article, it was reported that Amazon handed over recordings to the police without a judicial order. OK, it was in the USA, but it still shows that ultimately everything that goes in front of the camera lens is stored by Amazon. Thus, the company ultimately knows when the postman rings twice. When which people come to visit, etc.

As I said, I would not get anything where I do not have 100% full control over the images. Already to protect those who visit me.

But there are other WLAN doorbells that are not so heavily connected to a cloud

the eufy, for example, stores the images only locally on a storage

Right now, I’m mainly concerned with choosing the right type of doorbell (I mentioned the Ring because everyone knows it and understands what I mean)

We definitely want to have a video doorbell

Would you go for a WLAN doorbell, the advantage being very affordable

or does it actually have to be a POE doorbell?

Why always use a wired connection? If the Wi-Fi signal is good enough at the front door?

Which wired doorbell would you recommend? What do you think of Doorbird?

The problem for us is We have no space for a proper indoor station (where it can be hung meaningfully)

But later we want a "wireless smart home" (not big) just to control roller shutters and a bit of lighting and sockets with small rules or via smartphone and voice through Amazon Alexa or Google Assistant (possibly Siri if we ever switch to iPhone but that is not planned at the moment)

Then we would like to use the displays from Amazon or Google as the indoor station
