You may be right. I would still check whether the desktop computer can be connected somehow via LAN instead of relying solely on WLAN. It’s a different case with a laptop.
As far as I know, there are nowadays also great solutions to transmit your LAN over the house powerline with additional devices. It could be much easier. With that, you can then simply access the network throughout the entire house at the power outlet or place a WLAN router in any room to keep the costs for the additional devices low.
Exactly. You build a new house and immediately get such an expensive crutch.
The adapters cost a lot of money. It also works rather poorly in relatively new installations than well (especially if you have multiple circuits with separate RCDs).
You can buy 3 of these DLAN adapters cheaply from me. I needed these damn things in the rental apartment and now, thanks to LAN cabling, thankfully not anymore.
To musketier. I think it has nothing to do with saving. It is just the first FTTH installation for the guys in their life. We are in SH. Here you often only have DSL 2000 max. That is everyday life.
Exactly there lies the problem. With normal FTTC (copper cable connection) it would have been fine, because there you go from the telecom socket with 2 wires to where the router (with modem) goes.
If your electrician really installed a 2 x 2 cable, then he should really think about whether further training wouldn't help. I wire the occasional DSL connection for acquaintances and always preach that you don't use anything other than CAT cable nowadays. Also for the normal telephone!
