So we have an autonomous fingerprint system BioKey from idencom in our front door. It only requires a power supply and has an IR remote control for programming support. Up to 150 fingers can be enrolled. Unfortunately, the fingers cannot be time-controlled, but only individually activated and deactivated manually.

I have no experience with it yet, the lock does not have power yet. However, I think a timer could probably be retrofitted with an additional module. It cost an extra €950.

We have installed both versions:

The ekey system with the control unit is installed in the front door and the door from the garage to the house. Multiple fingers per person can be assigned, and different functions (keys) can be assigned to the fingers. For example, I can open the front door with my index finger and open/close the garage door with my ring finger. You could also use it to arm an alarm system, for example.
The whole thing can be easily configured via the ekey Multi control unit; if you want to manage it via PC, you have to opt for the slightly more expensive ekey net version. The material costs start at around €600 (for the fingerprint scanner, but of course you also need a motor lock in the door, which start at about €600-800).

In the garage door, I installed the BioKey system (not intentionally, I wanted ekey here as well, but the window manufacturer delivered incorrectly). The additional cost for this was €650 for me. The system actually works quite well, but as mentioned, you don’t have all the options like with ekey.

If you're only looking for a "cheap" solution to open/close the front door, I would suggest considering nuki. It can be controlled with a smartphone or transponder.

I also think that is a very good argument.

On the other hand, I would preferably want both, meaning that the door also works with a normal key. I would only want to give a key to "stranger" people like cleaning staff.

I think my favorite would be a combo with a transponder (so that I can open the door when I have the transponder in my pocket, but I don't have to insert a key into the lock) and a door code for emergencies (if I forget the transponder). The code would only need to be known by my husband and me; the children and household help would get a transponder.

We do not have a second entrance door into the house through the utility room or garage.

Oh, and one more thing. I also don’t think burglars would come in through the front; they would surely come through the backyard. Especially since there is an accessible undeveloped garden plot behind the house.

Our entrance is directly on the street side, only 5 meters from the sidewalk. The street is in a residential area with moderate traffic. And three houses down there is a pub.

One more question, can a door code system be installed in doors from any manufacturer or do you have to have certain manufacturers? Are there well-known suppliers of aluminum front doors?? Does anyone know of a large exhibition in NRW?

Well, you need a door with a motor lock... the rest is then done by the access system...
