Opinions are not up for discussion; I gladly leave that to you. The difference simply lies in the fact that the slats of venetian blinds are set more or less horizontally and thus cast a shadow on the slat below. In this way, the slats can cast a dancing floor-like shadow without the surface having to be completely opaque. This way, direct radiation stays outside, but reflected light can enter. Roller shutters have vertical slats that cannot shade each other.

Yes, there is some truth to that. The canopy can be built with an overhang so that in summer the light from the high sun stays outside, and in the transitional period, with a lower sun angle, the light penetrates into the room. We implemented this on the south side with the roof overhang. In summer, the sun only reaches a few centimeters into the living room with direct light, in winter about 5 meters. A good effect with a simple construction solution.

That's probably true. It is the reflected light that keeps the room brighter with venetian blinds than with roller blinds.

There is a world of difference between Venetian blinds and roller blinds. With roller blinds, it’s either dark or hot. With Venetian blinds, it’s bright and cool, really no comparison. Shading on the canopy is also variable with an awning. But depending on the position of the sun, even that doesn’t keep all the heat out.

hmm maybe we really should embrace venetian blinds after all!? Maybe you can spice them up / change them color-wise so they don’t remind me so much of an office feeling?

*Edit: Since there are quite a few venetian blind supporters here. Do you actually also have additional roller blinds that you lower at night for thermal insulation? Or in the sense of: you have to choose your poison, we prefer the advantages of heat insulation - of course more heat is lost at night with us than with a roller blind house.

You definitely need venetian blinds if you overdo it with windows or don't plan any other shading. But then you only need them in the south living/dining room area. It's often seen that roller blinds are used on the upper floor.

Venetian blinds are often sold as a cure-all, I have had some and was only moderately satisfied, for the following reasons:

-they get dirty very quickly and are miserably hard to clean
-I don’t like the look that much
-much more expensive than roller blinds
-they are basically always down because they go up and down very slowly (you should observe this, even in winter people are too lazy to keep raising and lowering them)

Roller blinds, shutters, and the like also have their disadvantages. Venetian blinds are often a good "compromise." But it’s better if your architect plans the house and the necessary shading. There are sun sails, canopies, the orientation of the house, and the best natural shading are trees!
