Two venetian blinds or a fingerprint scanner - which would you choose?

What do the other windows on the south side have? Roller shutters or venetian blinds?

We don't have any venetian blinds, but we do have a fingerprint scanner that I wouldn't want to miss anymore. It's just very practical, and a few times the scanner has been very helpful, as our little children had locked me out of the house.

Pff... that's what tantrums are for and then eventually the kids learn their lesson

On the topic: venetian blinds, definitely.

I would neither nor:
- I find venetian blinds too office-like / cold / industrial / government building.... It reminds me of my school days, where the things automatically went down at the first rays of sun and went up again at the slightest wind. I just don't have positive memories of them.
- I wouldn't buy a fingerprint scanner either. I would always prefer a mechanical lock. Every IT / computer interface makes your house vulnerable, especially at the front door. I wouldn't trust any manufacturer to have fixed all bugs (errors) of a digital lock. That's why I would always prefer a good solid "secure" mechanical lock.

Blinds block more light with the same shading effect. It is simply darker then. A good alternative could also be an awning.

I am of the opinion that with roller blinds and Venetian blinds there is always a setting in which both let in the same amount of light.
That would be, for example, with roller blinds 3/4 down and with Venetian blinds completely down and tilted to xx %. But both darken by the same percentage and thus both protect equally against the sun / heat?

*Edit: a permanent awning always blocks the sun for you. Therefore, during the transition period, when you can save heating because of that, it also warms your house less.
