Roller blinds block more light with the same shading effect. It is simply darker then.
A good alternative could also be an awning.
I am of the opinion that with roller blinds and Venetian blinds there is always a setting in which both let in the same amount of light.
That would be, for example, with roller blinds 3/4 down and with Venetian blinds completely down and tilted to xx %. But both darken by the same percentage and thus both protect equally against the sun / heat?
*Edit: a permanent awning always blocks the sun for you. Therefore, during the transition period, when you can save heating because of that, it also warms your house less.
