Thank you, dear Benutzer200, that was the honest answer I was looking for! Then I will probably leave it with the tile color.

Dear Hausbautraum, I think so too, I’m completely with you, as I said, one man’s pleasure is another man’s... There are also really great borders, borders themselves can also be timelessly beautiful. Only those, which I often see today in combination with certain salmon-colored terracotta tiles, are not (anymore) my favorite. It really depends a lot on style and color with the borders.

I will now probably cobble together some kind of silly Caribbean bathroom decor for the sake of a consistent style, unless we decide to plunge into a complete renovation adventure. The floor tiles are actually quite nice, in turquoise, but as stone tiles, like terracotta tiles, but in turquoise. My children will love it -- at least that. All that’s missing is Nemo from "Findet Nemo" on the wall :-) Or one of those singing fish. Or Bob Marley, for the adults :-)

Hey Hutchinson,

that sounds good. But no, sticking tiles isn’t that great, I think. The idea of all those layers.... You also say your tiles have to come out anyway. A guest WC like that is on the one hand not used that much, but on the other hand a showcase, so vinyl might be an option? Our guest bathroom is completely neutral, just white tiles on the walls and the floor tiled the same as the entire ground floor (the uniformity is great). I would have liked plain white tiles for our main bathroom too, because although a bit boring, white tiles are a great canvas for changing decorations and bathroom cabinets. Then let me know later how living with the vinyl is!

Show the bathroom.. I can hardly imagine it with the aquarium, but I can also imagine that it might not be really my thing ;)

has already said it, I think: what you do today will be "old-fashioned" again in 20 years, or rather: no longer up to date.

The hoped-for increase in value is only worth something if it is actually sold.

.....................

I don’t reach this conclusion from the chain of arguments.

If you don’t like the bathroom, then change it so that you like it. Experiment with color or film. You have nothing to lose.
If in 10 or 30 years you want to modernize the bathroom for an increase in value, you can still do that. For me, 30 years would be too long not to have corrected or tried something in the bathroom at all. Maybe the bathroom loses a bit of value, but maybe the bathroom also gains coziness for you, even if only visually... that is ultimately worth more than living 30 years at 70%. And in 30 years you can still modernize (which the buyer will probably just tear out again because he wants a picture of an aquarium on the wall ;) )
As already said: I don’t understand the thing with the picture. But can’t you try it out with film? You can just peel it off again if you don’t like it/sell it. I ALWAYS see a personal gain in a change that comes from dissatisfaction.

It looks quite inconspicuous from afar. In this picture, you can only see two of the patterned tiles. The floor tiles are, in my opinion, nice, even though they wouldn't be compatible with my dream bathroom. Not shown in the picture is the shower, which is practically on the right-hand side; you can only see one side of the cabin.

@ Elephant: A beautiful picture. Unfortunately, unfortunately, unfortunately, there is too little space in our bathroom for, e.g., a photo wallpaper with palm trees and a sunset ;)
