The price from the gardener is justified - can something be omitted?

Oleg works below minimum wage. He has to cover everything himself. With minimum wage, the employer still covers their share of expert fees. Oleg also needs them in some form. I just don’t understand why Oleg puts up with this. For 11 euros he can stock shelves and is properly registered and insured in Germany.

what just came to mind:

here in the area there are two "janitorial service providers" who also do garden landscaping. trained landscapers really cost money. but for paving you don't really need that, it's enough if some unskilled guy has done it for 1-2 years, then he paves almost as well as a landscaper, but he only gets 9.50 an hour.

same with concreting some foundations or building anti-climb spikes. Oleg does that for 9€ an hour just as well as the trained landscaper. check eBay classifieds for what kinds of all-round tradesmen there are.

I DO all of that myself, that’s what I also advised. so QED, landscape gardening is something for idiots, I can do it too.

But there are things, as I already wrote in my detailed post here, that I would have done by someone else. for example paving the yard, I simply don’t have the equipment for that. But it could just as well be done by a “non-landscape gardener” who knows what he’s doing and has the equipment.

You need the landscape gardener when you are doing proper landscape gardening. those guys are GARDENERS, even if that’s apparently not clear to you. They love paving concrete pavers just as much as an electrician likes chasing walls.

When it’s about whole trees, creating garden areas, embankments, working with dry stone walls for support, L stones, streams, irrigation systems, themed gardens, a touch of architecture, pond construction, garden DESIGN etc. Of course, the janitorial service is out of its depth there. and then €18 an hour is appropriate again. but not for concreting lawn edging stones.
