I don’t know if you mean having to cut and fiddle with the film yourself like on a smartphone... But if a professional company does it with the right quality film, you can’t even see visually that there is a film applied, and it lasts for several years. Of course, there is also film directly in the glass, but that costs accordingly. [/QUOTE] But that also costs accordingly, and we still have 3 old windows that need to be replaced in the next few years, so such an effort is not worth it threefold. What film do you have there?

The bright, maximally windowed south-facing location keeps us healthy through the winter. In summer, we still manage without electricity consumption. Everyone is different. Window film is a good idea for the summer but unfortunately costs light in the winter.

You read that quite often. That the films darken too much even on cloudy days and lead to higher heating costs in winter because they also block heat then. From what I have read, this is rather an inflexible solution.

We have now decided, for testing purposes, to initially buy electric roller shutters for the two east-facing windows in the living room. This way, we can first try how well they keep the heat outside. These cost about €600 together. If this proves successful, we will retrofit the rest as well. My husband is totally against shutters. Solar would mean less effort to install, but they are almost twice as expensive. In the living room, at least, we already have outlets inside the recesses and can branch off there without much effort. It’s different with the other windows, but as long as the roller shutters deliver what they promise, the effort would still be worth it compared to the extra cost for solar, at least for the windows on the ground floor. Upstairs, it would only be the two children’s room windows; there we would probably go with solar because we already have new plaster there^^. Yeah yeah, didn’t think that through, it was stupid, I know.
