We solved our wardrobe with two 50er Pax cabinets:

Everything around is closed with drywall and coated with the same fine plaster as the rest of the hallway. The cabinet doors are flush. The two spots are controlled by a small motion detector mounted up there (you can see it if you look closely).
In the middle, there will still be a wardrobe bench with seat cushions in full width and depth. The bench will then have drawers and compartments. The back third of the bench will open like a chest.
We deliberately did not want an open solution. This way, everything disappears into the cabinets. The left one has drawers, pull-out compartments, and a clothes rail. The right one has two clothes rails (one below for the kids and one above for visitors). Additionally, there are storage compartments.
