Solution for the wardrobe

What do you mean by the metal box? What does it look like at your place? At our place, the distributors are also in the wall like with Sebastian79.

With us, it is in front of the wall and then behind a panel - we will probably put a countertop over it and a cupboard with doors underneath, into which laundry baskets or something similar will go.

I believe our walls are not thick enough for that - 175mm aerated concrete / 115mm aerated concrete

With us, they are installed in 17.5 cm interior walls. With the 11.5 cm interior walls, they indeed would not have fit.

Also quite possible that it is simply the cheaper option – although the metal boxes weren't that cheap either. It doesn't really bother much; of course, it would be nicer otherwise.
