Hello,

the exterior plastering on our house will be done soon, and I finally have to deal with the topic of the door intercom system. After several hours of research, I am rather confused. Maybe I can gather a few tips here.

I am especially running into limits with the following "requirements":
I would like the door opener not to be wired directly in the system/outside but, for example, in the house connection room in the basement. I don’t feel comfortable knowing that any layperson can open the unlocked door at the door intercom.

Here are the current "facts"

[*]During the electrical rough installation, I laid a Cat7 LAN cable to the door – but it can also be replaced/supplemented with any bus cable.
[*]I exclude WLAN. I am now considering whether bus, LAN, or DECT. It should be connected to a FritzBox 7590.
[*]An electric door opener is available – it should be connected "securely" (in the basement?).
[*]A camera is desirable but it points directly to a public area and is next to the door. So it must either be installed with an angle bracket or have a large detection area.
[*]I don’t need monitors. There will be a Fritzphone on every floor anyway. They are to be used for answering. Video can also be transmitted there.
[*]I need/want the option to answer the door call via mobile from outside and open the door (for possible package deliveries). Preferably then with video transmission, so via app. Maybe a keypad at the bell would also be possible. I want to be able to change the code at any time.
[*]The door intercom system should be expandable with IP cameras (this would be especially important if no camera is installed).

Take a look at 2N, Goliath, GIRA, Ritto, Siedle etc. pp. they all have what you need/want in their range. One thing must be said in advance, it will not be cheap.

I would also consider whether I should implement such a function via the Fritz!Box, which has a relatively short product life cycle.

I would like to have a Doorbird D2101V installed at our place for this application. It can be powered via POE through the LAN cable. This way, I can operate the intercom and the door lock remotely via the included Doorbird app.

Additionally, it can be connected to the Fritzfons via SIP and also offers a REST interface, which allows, for example, streaming video to a NAS or similar.

I also find the product very interesting because it contains an RFID reader. This way, I can give our son an RFID chip instead of a key. If he ever loses it, I can deactivate the chip and use a new one.

There is also the option to purchase the Doorbird with a numpad or have an ekey fingerprint sensor installed.

Important to note is the following:

[*]It is recommended to additionally install the DoorBird IP E/A Door Controller A1081 so that the lock/latch cannot be easily operated by short-circuiting the contacts from outside.
[*]Doorbird products require online registration. Functions like receiving push notifications on the smartphone or operating the intercom remotely via smartphone run through a cloud service in Germany. Also resetting to factory settings or regular firmware updates.
Important though: if you do not want to use the cloud service, the Doorbird can be used locally like a regular intercom.
[*]The technology used for RFID is not cryptographically secured, meaning the chip can be copied. For me, this is an acceptable risk.
[*]The camera offers "only" 720p, so not Full HD. For me, this is sufficient.
[*]The voice quality is said not to be outstanding.
[*]Doorbird does not yet offer a HomeKit-certified product. It might be that something will come next year.

I will also get an indoor station so that guests (e.g., relatives) inside our house can see who is ringing the doorbell.

All in all, the costs amount to approximately 1340 Euros:

[*]630 Euros for DoorBird IP Video Door Station D2101V
[*]260 Euros for DoorBird IP E/A Door Controller A1081
[*]450 Euros for DoorBird IP Video Indoor Station A1101

I am also interested in the Doorbird. Do you already know at what height you will install it? And what were your alternatives to the Doorbird during the selection process?

I would be very grateful for a response!

That sounds very interesting at first. I have the same question as Danvane. Why that one and not another?
Besides, there are quite a few (sometimes significantly) cheaper alternatives. There are also door intercom systems with a camera and 2 monitors already available for 200EUR. What do they lack? The reviews for the Doorbird are good but not the best. Some mention quick failures. If I spend money on a device that only transmits a doorbell and video signal and another device that then opens an existing lock, it should work flawlessly for quite a while.
