Hello everyone,

I am assembling an Ikea kitchen. One wall is planned as follows – from left to right:

Wall -> filler strip approx. 5 cm -> tall cabinet (60cm) -> tall cabinet 60 -> end panel -> 60cm base cabinet & 60cm wall cabinet -> 60cm base cabinet & 60cm wall cabinet -> 60cm base cabinet & 60cm wall cabinet -> filler strip approx. 5cm on top of the wall cabinet and below the base cabinet (not continuous).

Unfortunately, I can no longer remember exactly how the kitchen consultant planned it. It was also not saved in the 3D planner. The next IKEA store is at the A.... of the world. Maybe someone here can help me.

Now my questions:
1. Would you install an end panel between the first filler strip on the left and the tall cabinet?

2. The Ikea consultant planned an end panel between the second tall cabinet and the (right next to it) base and wall cabinet so that the matte part of the cabinet is not visible. Now my question is whether
a) the end panel should be installed completely from top to bottom, that is 220cm, or
b) only for the visible part, i.e. between the wall and base cabinet.
c) if a, should I install the end panel only at cabinet height or down to the bottom (8cm) feet, which probably makes sense because of the plinth.

Many thanks!

to 1.) if the wall is an old building with unevenness, I would deliberately leave a gap of 1 to 3 cm on the left and start with the cover panel. if the wall is new construction quality, then I would start with a filler strip and only make a continuous cover panel from top to bottom on the right side of both tall cabinets (not starting at countertop height). but I would not do both cover panel and filler strip, that looks odd.

to 2.) take the cover panel continuously from the top to the bottom edge of the carcass. this dividing line in the joint pattern of the base cabinets works quite well, you visually perceive the tall cabinets as a separate unit. with option b) you might only just be able to open the upper cabinet doors to 90°. as for c), I can only say that the plinth should not be interrupted by the cover panel. you can only get the cover panel at a height where it ends with the bottom edge of the carcass. make a continuous plinth; the cover panel in the plinth area only creates unnecessary inner corners that disturb when vacuuming and mopping and also pose a risk of swelling when mopping damp. the Metod kitchen is designed so that the plinth consists only of plastic and no major damage occurs in the kitchen if something is spilled or wiped too wet.
