: I didn’t say that you earn more or less - you should see if you can live on €2500 net (including rent). If that works, you can save €2500 every month and additionally have the certainty that you can easily manage with a burden of €1800 per month.

By the way, banks often offer the option to vary the repayment.

On the topic of children:

We bought a lot second-hand or received things as gifts from relatives - by the way, that is not necessarily the worst in terms of pollutants.

Your child cannot remember whether they had the used stroller from Ebay or the brand new off-road model with Isofix and diamond decorations... that’s all YOUR ego.

My children received a lot of toys for Christmas ... where were they yesterday and today? On the sand hill behind the construction site - in my opinion, children up to 8 years old don’t care at all about how they live, as long as there is food and they are loved.

That is of course true. But - just because two people are now parents doesn’t mean they put all their wishes aside. Back then I also bought a lot used - also for our granddaughter now; but I wouldn’t have wanted everything used. I remember well the wish of most parents in our region - to be allowed to shop once at Baby Koch. Quite expensive for such a bit of fabric

Smart kids; that’s something they won’t be able to do again anytime soon in the coming years

Tell that to our granddaughter. As a keyword, I’ll just write Elsa .....

Rhenish greetings

Thank you very much for all the information and opinions!

Now, as far as my personal attitude towards "materials" is concerned, I am extremely pain-free! I am not at all into brands... Especially not for a child who doesn't really notice it anyway. My ego is deeply relaxed in this sense. I would/will definitely resort to used things! 100%. If it makes sense.

Now, as long as I have a company car and my partner’s current car stays intact, that could work. But that won’t be the case in the long term. I definitely need a vacation because unfortunately I can only relieve the accumulated stress from work at the beach. I’ll wait and see in the next few months whether we can manage with the planned EUR 850 for food or not. But that will become clear soon. (I will report) If push comes to shove, of course we will have to make compromises on the house. So far, I haven’t had any concrete plots or houses in view... But if I look at house prices in HU, I quickly realize that I wouldn’t really be happy with a house under 400K.

If you can live on €2500 net including rent, you have a buffer of €2500 - €1800 + rent... so enough even for unforeseen expenses.

Okay, Elsa I really forgot here, but for example, my wife sewed a costume for carnival herself. There were Barbies for the birthday.
Well - maybe not completely irrelevant - but less than sometimes feared.

So, when I look at my plan, it should actually work to get by with 2 people on 2500,- per month in a rented apartment.

[*]888,- rent incl. (additional costs, internet, household contents and liability insurance)
    [*]850,- food
    [*] 50,- sports club

[*]250,- car + motorcycle taxes & insurance, fuel. (Small car only liability), garage, repairs

[*] 70,- other insurances (legal protection, dental supplementary, etc...)
    [*]250,- vacation
[*]150,- pocket money (hairdresser, cinema, clothes, etc. In an emergency there are still bonuses and Christmas money available).

-------------------------------
totals EURO 2,508,-

So, not forever... But generally feasible for a manageable period of time.

If the wife is not working for a while (parental leave) and I count with half of her income (including child benefit), then I would be at about X300,- + 1 person (child).
Then you would have to pay e.g. 1800,- (house repayment incl. additional costs) and would still have x500,- left. That is the same amount as now, but with a child and higher fuel costs for the wife. So it will be tight... and I have zero desire for that!
The whole thing is supposed to be fun.

You forget that you then do not pay rent, but only ancillary costs.
