Well.... that's also one of those things again. Basically, cherry-picking. Because in pretty much every "What can I afford" thread there are life lessons, tips on how to better raise children, what you should never buy, how badly you've saved so far, and other valuable tips and accusations that the OP never asked for.

But here, with the question of garbage dump or railway bed, no one looks beyond the obvious and only gives exact answers...

But hey, you guys got this.

In any case, I wish the OP a lot of patience and a wise decision! He will do what is right for him.

It was about experiences. Some wrote that the trains or airplanes are/were too loud for them or the stench too strong and others (including me) wrote that they were not disturbed, for example, by the nearby trains. The apartment I was talking about definitely would not have been a place to live permanently. However, the trains were actually not a factor at all (the proximity to the station was even positive). So why should I write something else here? If a few houses come in between and you yourself do not build higher/or are positioned higher than the terrain or the wind direction is usually totally unfavorable, it probably would not bother me. How sensitive the OP is, he has to be able to assess himself...

Not airport - airfield. That is quite an essential difference. With the noise emitted by airfields, personal perception is crucial. Some find the small aircraft exciting and like to watch them circle in the summer. Others hear with their eyes and are annoyed by the aircraft noise when they spot a Cessna at 8,000 ft. But no one else can decide for you which category you belong to.

What would personally annoy me would be a glider airfield with aero-tow or an airfield with parachutists. In both cases, the aircraft take off with relatively high frequency to bring people or machines into the sky and then land again to fulfill the next mission.

I know both. Düsseldorf Airport was already annoying because my wife couldn't sleep well before the last and after the first flight - after all, there was a night flight ban that was exceeded by 1-1.5 hours every day. I found the sports airfield much more pleasant overall because the nights were quiet.

We once lived about 250m from a small town train station. ICE and RE trains ran very regularly. You didn't hear much of it, as there were several two-story buildings in between. The proximity to the station was more of a plus. But the main street with a traffic light right outside was bad. As if trucks parked next to the pillow from 5 a.m. Airport nearby was also not bad because it was not in the flight path. But the local conditions are so decisive here that you cannot make a general assessment.

I have no experience with landfills and airports.

I see it the same way. how does it look? Surely you have already spent some hours in both areas? Or visited neighbors with similar development near the train station?
