This does not apply to me at all. The current rental apartment is located on a not particularly busy street in a residential area of a village with about 1500 inhabitants, and our new build is located at the very edge of a village with about 530 inhabitants, and the main street is so far away that you can hardly hear it at all outside, and only a few local residents drive past the property directly.

Ok... So no one lives under the mentioned conditions, but "everyone" still recommends the landfill, freight train route and/or the airport.

That's nice.

Best regards

Well, not so sarcastic. The OP is asking about the lesser of two evils. That is answered subjectively.

We regularly have sport aircraft flying over our house on Sundays. That’s the worst, because they only fly when the weather is particularly nice outside and, of course, only on weekends! They are super loud and annoying. The airfield is actually far away – we just happen to lie right on the favorite route.
A landfill is planned 2km from us, we are still fighting it – so far, luckily with success. Railway tracks are 2km away but the land is flat. Fortunately, the trains don’t run that often but they’re much less annoying than the aircraft.
So that’s why I would be in favor of the property by the railway line, especially since there will be houses in between. Plan for soundproofing!

Can you read carefully?
The original poster wanted to know what the experiences regarding the mentioned circumstances are. People then shared their experiences and explained why they would rather choose plot 1 or 2.
At first, it doesn’t matter whether one’s own plot is better or worse situated. For example, I have a far less tense property situation than in large parts of the country. Of course, I wouldn’t pick train tracks or a landfill next door, but if you have hardly any options, you simply consider what you could handle and what you couldn’t. It is also legitimate to ask about other people’s experiences... which apparently differ greatly.

Read the thread – there are enough experience reports in it.
