So, now I have outgrown myself a bit and tried to draw the actual layout into the "theoretical" floor plan. I hope you can see it.
It would have been an interesting experiment to post the floor plan here with the question of what you think about it
The biggest problem, it seems, is actually the kitchen. We often have visitors, sometimes a lot, and somehow they all squeeze into the kitchen. If I then want to cook something, it gets tight. However, I don't see any way to change that without completely turning the house upside down, and we don't want that.
But kitchen renovation is actually a very urgent matter that I am just pushing aside for now

Do you only want to live on one level?

Swap Child 1 and kitchen
Then the large hallway can be used as a dining area

I should probably say: Child 1 has already moved out, Child 2 is currently doing their A-levels. And yes, we lived only downstairs, upstairs is rented out. The 110 sqm downstairs, despite the awkward layout, was more than enough for the last 20 years. An additional 100 sqm on the first floor, what do you need so much space for? We had thought about moving the kitchen into the living room, basically as a large open-plan kitchen, but that would be difficult with water/drainage. And then extending the bathroom to the old kitchen, but then we would have a 15 sqm bathroom, which no one really needs...

If Kind1 is already gone: kitchen from Kind1 and bathroom, then bathroom into the kitchen and then I would probably also swap living and sleeping, and, as haydee already said, include the hallway. Then there is enough space for a large living/dining/kitchen unit that should also be able to handle a larger influx of visitors.
