your parents certainly didn't build with an income of 2800 euros in 2020. With a 230,000 euro loan you don't get far with building a house, your house will definitely cost 300,000 euros including incidental costs, it can't get much cheaper. For a 300,000 euro loan you will certainly pay well over 1000 euros every month, you just have to consider whether you can manage that. Best regards Sabine

We are currently only two people and have monthly fixed costs (retirement provision, insurances, car, etc.) amounting to 700, of which 200 are simply "because we can" and would definitely not be necessary (Sky, Aktion Mensch lottery, DAZN, etc.). For food, fuel, drugstore stuff, and so on, we currently spend about 700 euros, and here too, one could certainly be more frugal. So we would relatively easily manage with 1200 euros per month without having to live poorly or overly frugally.

That theoretically leaves 300 euros that would simply be left over!

Personally, I would probably find the plan too uncertain, but: I don’t find it as dramatic as you do.

€1,200 monthly is, personally, very very frugal for two people. We are three. And after deducting all costs like rent, our daughter’s music school, retirement provision, Netflix (we also set aside money every month for car insurance, car tax, Amazon Prime, so everything that is not charged monthly), we have about €2,200 left for the three of us + €2,000 is saved. And we are still waiting with the house construction so that we have at least paid off the plot and built up some equity.
