A residential building that is not suitable as a living space cannot be good architecture. Impossible. But not every architecture is suitable as a living space.
Good architecture is not necessarily expensive. Often seen, for example, in the wonderful series "Grand Designs." Here there are often very affordable and at the same time excellent architectural solutions for real-life challenges. Of course, you can’t rebuild that 1:1 in Germany, but it’s definitely worth taking a look. With a 500-700 thousand limit for the desired 200 sqm, I also don’t see architecture, but functional living.
It’s good if you like several styles; we felt the same. Much more important is that the person designing the house gets the best possible understanding of you and your life. That is the basis for extraordinary designs to succeed and not just fail. This goes far beyond functional requirements. Starting to draw is nice, but especially at the beginning it’s just accessory. Unfortunately, many architects don’t make the effort to guide their clients in this sense or no longer try because they have often met with incomprehension and rejection. Find someone who enjoys this creative process and be surprised. The result will fit you and the surroundings. The budget is sufficient for that. We’re not fixed on one thing – as already mentioned: it doesn’t have to be a flat roof, a modern barn with a mansard roof has something too ;-)
