Unfortunately, I don't know much about plants, but I can still share some experiences: we have Thuja (no idea which variety) on one side of the garden, and ivy on the other. I don't associate Thuja with cemeteries, and they grow very quickly and quite densely. But they also turn brown inside. So it really depends on proper care and the right pruning. We cut away the brown parts at the bottom and now they look stupid because we thought new green would grow back. But it doesn’t. Conclusion – they just keep getting wider, and if you want to prune them narrower, you eventually have more brown than green. On the other side, we have a fence covered with ivy (a nice variety with a lot of white and green and large leaves) and also clematis in between. I find that much nicer, denser, and easier to care for than the Thuja side. I also have the impression that ivy is indestructible. A small plant now easily overgrows 3 meters in width and 2 meters in height. As for the costs – unfortunately, I have no idea about that either.

Hi,

I can't say much about the plants. For that, I have my wife - a trained landscape gardener. I like to stay out of her area of expertise.

However, I want to give a different hint here: I can understand anyone who doesn't want the neighbor to look directly at their table from 10 meters away, but a privacy screen for you is also a privacy screen for bad guys.

Ever thought about bamboo? It comes in different sizes, is evergreen, and grows very fast. However, it is advisable to choose a variety that does not require a rhizome barrier.

Due to recent events, I have to correct myself: we do not have a privet, but a cherry laurel. Privet is relatively inexpensive, by the way. It only partially sheds its leaves in winter.

May I join in here right away? We are also looking for an opaque, evergreen, and easy-to-maintain (3 x rectangular cuts per year) hedge, with a final height of about 150 cm. Preferably plantable by ourselves and, if possible, still available in August. Thank you

Google "immergrüne Hecke". However, you need a lot of plants - usually 4-5 per meter. Therefore, people plant bare-root plants in autumn or spring, which are cheaper. You can plant potted plants all year round, so also in August, but then you will spend a small fortune.
