Boxwood is not suitable as a privacy screen, it takes a small eternity just to reach knee height. Yes, and then comes this flicker [Züngler]

We have a mixed flowering hedge and really like it. Something else blooms all year round, and it provides an additional food source especially for butterflies, bees, and bumblebees. We had the plants installed two years ago and they have already grown very nicely, especially our lilacs that already tower above us.

Hello, oh my 2 old post is still alive

then I can report from experience, we are very happy with the "Friedhofhecke" Thuja. Planted alone last spring, bought at the nursery. There are a total of 95 pieces, I believe 2.5 per running meter.

Last year was tough because of the extreme summer. You have to water a lot during the first 3 years, last year about 16 pieces of ours died. The nursery generously replaced them for almost free. This year they are already blooming great. My wife also planted some bamboo. Allegedly, this type of roots is not aggressive, but we will see

Thanks to everyone for the information. I will visit a gardener this week. Let's see what else he can recommend to me.

Always have them neatly trimmed (or do it yourself). We have an 18-year-old Thuja hedge in the garden, a monster, 1m wide (deep), about 4-5m long on all 3 garden sides with only small gaps, it takes up so much space. It was 4.5m high because the previous tenants didn’t take care of it. The landlord kindly had it cut down to 3.5m before we moved in, it still overwhelms me. Unfortunately, we are (hopefully only for now) not allowed to remove it

- one day you’ll realize that you actually don’t need 99% of it -

Just stopped by the gardener briefly. Probably wasn't the right one. Every second word was boxwood, boxwood, and more boxwood. He proudly showed me his stock. For 28 meters, he would charge me 5 plants per meter. They are currently trimmed square at 20x20x20. 28 meters * 5 plants = €1,350. Growth in our region according to the "breeder" (you can hardly call him anything else) about 10 cm per year. The first cut is free and he will do it for free. The second cut under his guidance by me. That would be included in the "package." I would have to plant it myself; he would show me how at his place. Well, let's see what else is available. Thuja is currently not an option.
