I had Thuja Smaragd first, it completely died because of dryness. I find Cherry Laurel very nice, and honestly, almonds also contain hydrogen cyanide and yet no one makes a fuss. Does anyone actually want to eat their Cherry Laurel?? Strange argument. I find Viburnum beautiful as an evergreen hedge. It hasn't been mentioned here yet, so I'm doing that now. Currently, our hedge planting is heading towards colorful with Spirea, Hornbeam, Cherry Laurel, and a remaining Thuja. I also find a flowering hedge the most beautiful, but then really evergreen.

Link removed by moderation

I’ll quote:
"‘Anyone who plants cherry laurel hedges commits a crime against nature,’ states NABU director Sönke Hofmann clearly, ‘even a concrete wall is ecologically more valuable; at least lichens and mosses grow on it over time.’ At best, birds find a little shelter among the leaves, but the plant cannot feed them."

Clearly, the article is somewhat exaggerated – still, I personally think far too few people consider what they are actually planting in their garden and what impact it can have.

You can eat everything if you want But not everything is digestible or even poisonous. It’s not just the cherry laurel!!!

I mean: certainly some plants are poisonous, yet should we give them up??? Animals instinctively avoid poisonous plants, children can be taught not to eat all plants. At least that’s what I was told.
A problem should only arise if trimmings are left lying around, which might then easily end up in toddlers’ mouths.
I heard from someone that she removed ALL the boxwood hedges at her place because she became a grandma

Child 1 does not eat vegetables and little fruit, he does not put anything green in his mouth, Child 2 is the opposite, we are raising him that way
