If the location of the house suits you, you are actually in a comfortable situation. If I were you, I would continue with the renovation. If you are planning to have children, also proceed with the extension so that there is more space. Even if you had to invest another 150k in the renovation now, you will be completely done with the matter in 15 - 20 years.

Where does your figure of 150k for heating, water, and the (not luxurious) bathrooms come from? In my renovation experience, that is off by orders of magnitude. Please reconsider this before using this number as a basis for your decision.

Yes, it is not as simple as it sounds...

We wanted to move into the house after grandma moved out... At that time, there was no talk of inheritance yet. During the renovation, more and more problems emerged. We didn’t want to do windows and electrics at first, but then we both did everything. We didn’t have time for a heating system back then... The situation with the craftsmen is alarming, a year ago no one would have touched anything (we dealt with at least 25 installation companies).
Therefore, we compromised to move in first (the apartment was also canceled).

.. And unfortunately, we do not like the location and the extremely small garden at all.
That’s why we have to think about an alternative now.

I am still sure that the financial situation will change a lot in the next few years. The house may then no longer be worth as much.

We are still only 30 but naturally have to think carefully in the next few years concerning children and such....

If the location and living here were nice, I would do it immediately... Unfortunately, that's no longer an option at all...

And please don't get me wrong, I am really very grateful for the semi-detached house. I just renovated everything myself for 6 months and spent a lot of money. Now we don't like it at all... Except for the garden (which unfortunately is much too small) And that is actually quite demotivating....

So first of all, the question is how you come to expect a decline in property prices.
Then you simply have too little income for a purchase or new build in your region. Even in the worst locations in Germany, it’s tight, even if the land is given for free.
Equity is naturally good through the inheritance. Your semi-detached house will probably only sell well below value due to the incomplete renovation.
You are reaching for the stars without having even the necessary capital in sight. Whether grateful or not, the only alternative would be an affordable condominium. Maybe with a garden portion. After selling the semi-detached house.
Or massively increase your income.
I would still finish renovating.
