Hello!

Yesterday we eagerly received the first preliminary draft from our architect, and it is already very close to our dream house. Among other things, we wanted the upper floor to stand above the ground floor and thus form the terrace roof. He implemented this exactly as we wanted. However, since the roof is currently planned to be about 3.8 m high, we wonder whether it might be too dark in the kitchen/dining/living area. He has planned an open roof on the left side (kitchen) where the tree is, and some glass elements on the right (the terrace faces south), but we are not sure about this. Does anyone have experience with this? What would you consider the maximum roof coverage, or are 3.8 m perfectly fine?

Stylish, stylish :)
But to answer your question, you need to know the orientation of the terrace or where south is.

From the feeling, or if I remember that our row house had the covered terrace on the west side, it would be much... very much too dark in the rooms for me. There, only light from the light strips beside the sofa comes into the room.... you can also see on the model that it is pitch dark there... :(

Edit: Our balcony covering is about 140cm deep

I think 3.8 m is already quite a lot. In summer, you won’t have much sun in the living area.

We have a 2.2 m overhang and that already provides full shading in summer (I hope it will be better in winter - at least that's the plan;-)

Do you want to cook in the kitchen?

Thank you for your opinion.

Regarding orientation: As mentioned, the terrace faces south.

Regarding the kitchen: Cooking will probably only happen in exceptional cases ;-) It has not yet been drawn in that a short kitchen unit will be placed opposite the island on the left.

There should be enough sunlight coming into the kitchen since it is open upwards here (we will probably leave out the tree; otherwise, it would provide shade). Nevertheless, I also think that 3.8 m is a lot. But I also find 2.2 m a bit too little, because for example, in rain, you wouldn’t even be able to fit a somewhat larger table with, for example, 6 chairs there, would you?
