So the same topic everywhere. hmm.

Leaving the shoes on the terrace worked quite well at first, until the nice weather went away. Then the shoes were regularly soaked. And as Yvonne also says, even the plastic flip-flops would only be of limited help there. So we will have no choice but to force ourselves to properly put the shoes away and lay down a big runner or something similar.

Currently, we have a protrusion of about 1.5 m depth from the upper floor above the terrace, so our garden shoes (worn-out sneakers) are kept there and do not get wet (in winter we do not use the garden anyway, not even the dog goes out there). Since this will change, I would also be interested in your solutions. I will probably just throw them into a few plastic bags and place them outside the door.

We also have these plastic shoes and they are on a doormat that matches the kitchen, right next to the patio door in the kitchen.

For us, however, it is not really that problematic, because despite 8 years of training our female dog, I have not been able to teach her to wear shoes and change them when entering the house.

In this respect -> the Dyson Animal Pro responsible for the kitchen does not distinguish who the culprit was, it just sucks up the dirt ;-) .

But a covered terrace offers so much more than just protection for shoes?! What about the garden furniture, the grill, etc.? In our rental apartment, a part is covered by a balcony, that's so brilliant! When it starts to drizzle in summer, we quickly push the table and chairs underneath, the grill too, and carry on. In the evening, everything often stays outside, including the cushions, etc. It doesn't matter if it rains sometimes. We are definitely planning a partially covered terrace for the new house!

The topic of terrace roofing naturally also has its appeal for us in other respects.

At the house of our old apartment, we had a covered seating area. Under this roofing, we often grilled in the rain and also spent many cooler evenings outside. Garden furniture would of course also be more protected. We will go to the fair this weekend.

Ok, a roof certainly offers protection against the shoes getting wet. We ourselves do not have a roof. But what does it look like in winter when there are many below-zero degrees and you step into the correspondingly cold shoes. I imagine that this is not always so pleasant. And what if a mouse has made itself comfortable in a shoe or has nibbled on it. Of course, it could also have left certain things, just like a cat. So I would not like to leave the shoes outside, not even in summer. But of course that is a matter of opinion. You can put a bag in the room and put a runner or something else over it and place the shoes on it. The advantage is that moisture and dirt do not get on the floor.

You did not properly train your dog, or he does not want to learn it. I can only say about our dog (who unfortunately has been dead for several decades) that he stayed at the front door in bad weather and waited for someone to wipe his paws. Otherwise, he did not come in.
