I would then, however, swap the sink and the cooktop in option 1 or 2, depending on whether you want to slavishly follow the three-step sequence of refrigerator - sink - cooktop or - which has proven to be more sensible for us - prefer refrigerator - cooktop and only occasionally the sink.

I also don't understand why everyone insists on a sink, ideally right under the stove, so it’s always immediately accessible. Our sink primarily serves for washing hands, setting down cookware until it goes into the dishwasher after the meal, and washing pans, roasting pans, knives that are either too big for the dishwasher or better not washed in it. In other words, we always (!) use the sink after cooking, almost never during. The exception is pasta or potatoes, when we pour the water into a colander. There, I find turning 180 degrees to the opposite surface just as ergonomic as turning 90 degrees next to the stove. Why should I chop vegetables in the sink? Cutting board, leftovers on kitchen paper, wrap, straight into the organic waste bin.
